About this research

Using information contributed by families to the Global Angelman Syndrome Registry, this study explored communication, motor skills, daily living skills and behaviour in 204 children with Angelman syndrome under six years of age.

The research found that many communication, motor and adaptive skills were associated with age, showing that young children with Angelman syndrome continue to develop skills as they grow. It also identified differences by genetic type, particularly in communication, with children with a non-deletion aetiology showing advantages in some communication skills.

The study demonstrates the value of parent-reported Registry data in building a better understanding of development in Angelman syndrome and identifying areas that may benefit from targeted early intervention.
