About this research
Using information contributed by families to the Global Angelman Syndrome Registry, this study examined feeding problems in 57 adults with Angelman syndrome and explored their relationship with gastrointestinal symptoms, communication and developmental history.
Feeding problems were reported in 83% of adults in the study, with food-seeking behaviour the most commonly reported issue. Feeding problems were also significantly associated with gastrointestinal symptoms and aspects of language and communication.
The findings highlight that feeding difficulties remain an important issue in adulthood and add to our understanding of an area of Angelman syndrome where relatively little adult-specific research has been available.
